Scadoxus multiflorus - An evergreen rhizomatous perennial that is widespread in southern Africa. The tubular bases of the leaves are pressed flat against each other, forming a sturdy and fleshy pseudostem, usually purple spotted. The flowerheads (Dec.-Mar.) consist of up to 200 flowers, diameter up to 25 cm. Both the leaves and the root contain toxic alkaloids.
