The Cape Peninsula - Chapman's Peak Drive
Just north of Noordhoek, on the Atlantic coast, is Chapman's Peak Drive, a road with well over 100 turns which connects Hout Bay with Noordhoek. It is one of the world's most impressive corniche roads, running for 10 km along the rocky face of Chapman's Peak. There are numerous bends and parking places from which visitors can enjoy great views over Hout Bay.
The highest point of the road reaches a height of 160 m above sea level. The road was constructed by blasting out of the cliff face; since the exposed rock has not had time to oxidize yet it shows the reddish and yellowish layers of Table Mountain sandstone above the Cape granite.
