Two territorial male leopards ran into each other at the borders of their territory. This predictably gave rise to impressive masculine showing off. The two leopards would exchange hostile growls and looks, then slowly walk away not deigning to look at the other but stealthily keeping an eye on the movements of the adversary. Obviously they walked away slowly from each other, so that their opponent would appreciate the disdain and not be lured into thinking that this was a retreat, or conversely follow at a relatively comfortable distance. When this muscle flexing and showing off of might had gone on for about five minutes, during which they carefully avoided a real fight - which might inflict wounds which would endanger their existence - they would lie down, drooling and panting heavily as if recovering from very strenuous labour.
